The Hobbit

We're having a look at The Hobbit at the moment, especially as the film comes out in France on 12th December. Quite a few of us have bought the book.

The book is one of the classic fantasy books, written seventy-five years ago and still amazing.

It concerns a hobbit called Bilbo and his dangerous and difficult journey with a group of dwarves and a wizard called Gandalf.

In Year 5 we started out by looking at the description of hobbits and at Bilbo's meeting with Gollum and their contest of riddles.

The film's website is worth a visit: thehobbit.com

There, among the Special Features, you'll find a collection of riddles that you can try to solve, and then rate. You can even add your own riddles:

Riddles in the Dark

Here's the trailer for the film. It's the first of three films that tell the story of The Hobbit:

You can hear the first chapter of the book here.

You can see our riddles here. (Add more if you like!)

Year 5, how much do you like The Hobbit so far?
Rate it out of five stars:

  1. I haven't read the hobbit yet but apparently it's a good book. Are you looking forward to the movie on the 12/12/12. I'd like to read this book to find out about Bilbou and Gadalf and learn some more riddles because I am not very good at them!
